Translator

Translate offline on Windows – without uploading the text

Are you actually allowed to upload this text? With client names, contract terms or diagnoses that is not a rhetorical question. Celerando translates right on your machine: the translation model sits on your disk, the text never leaves your PC — no upload, no website, no account.

The moment of hesitation

There is a paragraph in front of you that you need in another language. You know the translation services, and you know they are good.

And still you hesitate — because that paragraph contains a client's name. Or contract terms. Or a diagnosis.

Usually convenience wins. Sometimes caution does, and you translate by hand. Neither is satisfying.

We are not claiming to be better

The large cloud translators are excellent. They run in data centres nobody fits under a desk.

Celerando runs on your PC. With very long, literary or stylistically demanding texts you will notice the difference.

With everything else — emails, paragraphs, notes, technical texts — you get a translation you can work with. Without anyone else ever seeing it.

The question is not which translator is best. It is which one is allowed to receive the text.

How you translate – no tab, no website, no login

01
Open the translator

As a tile in the dashboard, or as its own window via hotkey.

02
Paste or type

The source language is detected automatically. If you like, Celerando translates while you are still typing.

03
Take the result

One click copies the translation to your clipboard — or inserts it straight into the window you were last writing in.

19 languages, all local

For free, Celerando translates between your system language and English. From Pro, all 19 languages are available in every direction:

  • German
  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian

  • Portuguese
  • Polish
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Swedish
  • Norwegian (Bokmål)
  • Finnish
  • Hungarian
  • Romanian
  • Greek
  • Turkish
  • Russian
  • Ukrainian

The source language is detected automatically. Where the target language makes the distinction, you choose between formal and informal address — automatically or fixed.

The translation model: download once, then offline

Celerando translates with TranslateGemma, a translation model by Google built on Gemma 3, prepared for Windows by Menterium. It is downloaded once from inside the app and then lives on your disk — in your user profile, no admin rights required.

After that the translator needs no connection at all. Unplug the network, switch to flight mode or put the machine on an isolated network — translation keeps working.

TranslateGemma 4B · CPU

About 5 GB download. Runs on any PC with Windows 10 or later, even without a graphics card — noticeably slower without one. The model of the free version.

TranslateGemma 4B · GPU

About 3.4 GB. Uses a dedicated graphics card via DirectML — AMD, Intel or NVIDIA. From Pro.

TranslateGemma 12B · GPU

About 8.8 GB, needs roughly 10 GB of graphics memory. Clearly better for Hungarian, Turkish, Finnish, Polish and Czech; for German, English, Spanish, French and Italian, 4B is enough. From Pro.

Business keeps the model in memory, so nothing has to reload when you switch between dictation and translation.

How you know nothing is uploaded

The translator has no server to ask. There is no Celerando translation service on the internet — the model on your disk is the only instance.

What the app contacts at all: the download of each model you select, the update check, and on the very first launch a single installation ping. It carries a random installation ID, a truncated hash of the device fingerprint, and the app and Windows versions — no account, no name, no content. The server does not store the IP address in plain text: a hash of it is deleted after 48 hours, while the approximate location derived from it (country, region, city with an accuracy radius) stays with the record for 24 months. Translated text is never part of it. You can verify this with the Windows firewall or a network monitor.

The history stays local too: it is off by default, and if you turn it on, it is a file in your user profile.

Celerando, DeepL and Argos Translate compared

Three ways to translate a text — and the difference is less about quality than about who gets to see the text.

Frequently asked questions about the offline translator

Does translation really run fully offline?

Yes. The translation model is downloaded once from inside the app — 3.4 to 8.8 GB depending on the model — and then lives on your disk. The translation itself opens no connection; try it in flight mode.

Which languages does the translator support?

Nineteen: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Czech, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian (Bokmål), Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian — in every direction. Your system language and English are free, all 19 from Pro.

How big is the download, and where is the model stored?

TranslateGemma 4B takes about 5 GB as the CPU variant and about 3.4 GB as the GPU variant; the 12B model needs about 8.8 GB. The files live in your Windows user profile under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Menterium\Celerando — no admin rights, and they can be deleted from inside the app at any time.

Do I need a graphics card?

No. The CPU variant runs on any PC with Windows 10 or later, just slower. With a dedicated graphics card — AMD, Intel or NVIDIA, driven via DirectML — translation is much faster; the large 12B model needs roughly 10 GB of graphics memory.

How does the quality compare to DeepL or Google Translate?

Good enough for everyday text — emails, paragraphs, notes, technical texts; with literary or very long texts you will notice the difference to the cloud services. For Hungarian, Turkish, Finnish, Polish and Czech the 12B model is noticeably better. The free version exists precisely so you can judge that yourself.

Can I choose between formal and informal address?

Yes, wherever the target language makes the distinction — German, French, Spanish, Italian or Dutch, for example. Automatically, or fixed to one form.

How long can a text be?

Longer texts are translated section by section and reassembled; finished sections appear immediately while the next ones run. If a section fails you get an error instead of a half-translated document.

Is the text cached anywhere?

Not outside your machine. The translation history is off by default; if you turn it on, it is a file in your user profile and can be deleted at any time.

Does the app connect to the internet at all?

For the download of each model you select, for the update check, and on the very first launch for a single installation ping — a random installation ID, a truncated hash of the device fingerprint, and the app and Windows versions; no account, no name, no content. The IP address is not stored in plain text: a hash of it is deleted after 48 hours, while the approximate location derived from it (country, region, city) is kept for 24 months. Translated text is never part of it. On isolated networks Celerando can also be activated without an internet connection.

Is it suitable for law firms, medical practices and businesses bound to confidentiality?

The starting point differs from a cloud service: there is no third party processing the text, and so no data processor that would have to be bound by contract. Whether that is sufficient for your case is for your data-protection review to decide — this page provides the technical facts for it.

Do I need admin rights?

No. Celerando installs into your user profile, and so does the translation model.
